Like a Billboard in the Desert?
August 25, 2010 2:09 pm Internet and Businesses OnlineYears ago a business person that I admire said to me that putting up a website without proper search engine optimisation was a bit like putting up a billboard in the middle of the desert – you just had to hope that someone who wanted your product or service would drive by. Unfortunately, I ignored that advice when I developed a website for my business. Fortunately, I found a great seo company by typing SEO Brisbane into Google.
It turned out that (to use the expression of the seo people) my “websites sucks”. They told me that it had been built in what they described as an “internet artefact” called frames, which meant that my web pages could not be properly indexed on the major search engines. It’s no wonder I couldn’t find my website when I went searching for it on Google, Yahoo! and Bing.
Anyway, to cut a long story short these people built me a new website that I can easily manage myself and are still doing search engine optimisation work on the site every month. It’s only bee three months now, but already we are listed on the first page of the major search engines for lots of keywords and phrases. It’s really awesome!
Looking back at all the money I wasted on that first website (the one that sucked), I wish I had listened to my friend and thought more about his analogy of the billboard in the desert. I’ve learned from experience to consider seo as a primary objective when building a website.
